Times for Kids ranked the top selling cookie brands sold in supermarkets in 2002. Surprisingly, Oreos sold the most. The poll results show that no one so far in our class even likes oreos. Here is the short article about the top cookie brands.

3. Chips Deluxe: $160 million

4. Newtons: $137 million

5. Fudge Shoppe: $127 million

Cookies Sent to Middle East

I was watching the news just now at 10 and saw a news story about 200 girl scouts in Massachusetts sending cookies to the Middle East. Over 10,000 boxes were sent overseas. They said that it was to remind them of home and give them a little bit of what they were missing. I think that is a great idea because I've talked to a soldier in Iraq and he told me how much the little things matter and how much they miss those things.

Fortune Cookies

I am not a big fan of Chinese food (I know, gasp!) but I like to crack open a fortune cookie to read the fortune. I don't eat the cookie, does anyone eat the cookie? You always get a very vague prediction or some random Confucius-like wisdom.

Like most American Chinese food, the fortune cookie isn't Chinese. Although, there is some debate about the actual origins it is believed to come from Japan. They have book and illustrations dating back to 1878. However, fortune cookies are not well known in Japan.
It was believed that the fortune cookies came from California made by a Chinese or Japanese immigrant between 1907 and 1914 .

Anyways, just for fun, here is a fortune cookie flash toy.

Scrooge of Girl Scout Cookies

Dr. Cohen sent me yet another story about cookies. Sorry Dr. Cohen but the story wasn't even sorta funny! It just made me shake my head. Anyways the article is about this guy that kicked the girl scouts off his sidewalk. While he had the legal right to do that, what kind of jackass does that? They are little girls that will be there for one day for a few hours. On the other hand, the mothers and troop leaders should have had permission before setting up their table. Also, they should know if they need a permit or not. Getting a permit could also be part of the little girls' life lessons. Seriously, the guy should lighten up a little bit and show a little kindness toward people. I hope the three ghosts of cookie selling past, present, and future show up in the middle of the night! Maybe next time, he will just steal their cookies and then feel bad and return them and his heart will grow three sizes that day!
