Prices of Cookies

Suppose you want to make 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies. What are your choices? As discussed in an earlier blog, you can buy all the whole ingredients, buy a mix plus the added ingredients, or a packaged dough. I will give you the prices for each option.

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Cookie Dough 20ct...............$3.50 x 2= $7.00
Pillsbury Cookie Dough in log Form(should make over 2 dozen).............$3.59
Betty Crocker cookie mix(3 dozen,2 inch cookies).................$2.79
Betty Crocker cookie mix + eggs + butter.......$2.79+$1.19+$1.50= $5.48
Whole Ingredients(subtract what you already have at home)
-Sugar...................$1.69
-Brown Sugar.......$1.09
-Butter..................$1.50
-Egg.......................$1.19
-Flour....................$1.59
-Baking Soda........$1.19
-Salt.......................$0.79
-Chocolate Chips..$2.69
Total....................$11.73

Whole Ingredients were selected from the cheapest, lowest quantities. For example, I chose half a dozen eggs instead of a full dozen eggs.

The whole ingredient way may be more expensive but it is going to make more cookies and won't have all those unnatural added ingredients. Also most people already have most of the ingredients they need to make whole ingredient cookies.

In conclusion, the cheapest way to make 2 dozen cookies is to buy cookie dough in log form. Enjoy your cookies!

This was actually very interesting to me since I'm the type to make cookies from scratch. I always told myself I couldn't justify spending so much money on packaged cookie dough when I had all the the ingredients at home to make them. I guess most of the ingredients to make them are usually laying around the house, so you never actually think about how much they do cost!

This is very interesting. I agree with Jess I suppose I've never noticed how much more expensive it is because the ingredients are alreday in the house. Also I guess it isn't as bad when you think about the fact that all the ingredients make multiple batches. I think most of the fun of baking is following the recipe and trying new fun things not just chocolate chip from the log of dough.
